Hope L. Bourne “The Lady of Exmoor”

Phil was delighted to find a short clip on YouTube about Hope L. Bourne, an amazing and inspirational lady who lived and equally amazing and inspirational life on Exmoor.

Hope L. Bourne lived in the Exmoor landscape in a caravan some miles from habitation where she tended livestock, wrote, sketched, painted, hunted, foraged, et al. Her frugal and wonderful life is portrayed through her several books and two documentaries one of which, “Hope Bourne with Chris Chapman”, Phil owns on the antiquated format of VHS!

A recent viewing of this video lead to a search of the internet and turned up a short piece of footage from BBC Radio 4’s “Last Word” which was sadly broadcast on her demise at the age of 91.

For those unacquainted with this amazing lady and her life on Exmoor this short clip gives an exceptionally brief taster of her life, her passion for The Moor, her eloquence and strength of character.

Her book “Wild Harvest” is one of Phil’s favourites which he has read many times over and would recommend highly.

I too have read this book Wild Harvest on many occasions
and feel the essence of what she says so true, simple life so many people these days could take notice of.
I am moving in the spring to Combe Martin from Hertfordshire right on the border of Exmoor!
