Ben Orford Spoon and Indian Crook Knives

When purchasing or replacing old or damaged kit it is not a sensible business decision nor is it value for money trying to scrimp and save on what often equates to only a few pounds difference by purchasing cheaper and often inferior items. We needed to replace some of our existing spoon carving and craft item tools and we wanted the best for our clients – so we went to see Ben Orford at his stand at the Wilderness Gathering a few weeks ago.

I was given a Ben Orford small standard crook or spoon knife some years ago as a birthday present and I found it to be far superior in both quality of manufacture and design to anything similar that I had used previously. We had a stock of cheaper mass produced spoon knives that we have been using since 2008, but these had seen better days and needed to be replaced.

With this in mind we found Ben at his stand at The Gathering to have a natter and examined his wares and we were impressed by all that we saw and handled! So we were happy and excited to walk away with a selection of his tools that included:-

  • Small Standard Crook Knife
  • Small Flatter
  • Hybrid Handle
  • Medium
  • Flatter Curve Crook Knife
  • Indian Crook Knife

These exquisite wood carving tools will certainly be put through their paces and given a thorough test by our team and our clients and we are confident that we have purchased wisely. We will also have a selection of Ben’s carving tools for sale to course attendees.

"We learnt loads - it was fascinating and although there were some kids there who clearly needed quite close supervision the leaders managed to keep a very good balance between fun, learning & keeping each individual safe."
